Susquehanna Bass Association Season Starts Sunday

The Susquehanna Bass Association will open its 2009 season with the Pickwick Motor Sports Open on Canadarago Lake from 6 a.m-2 p.m. Sunday. The event follows the opening day of bass season Saturday.

Jim Dillenbeck and Vic VanSteenburg will look to successfully defend their title as the 2008 Anglers of the Year.

The SBA season continues June 28 with the Valley Electric Plumbing and Heating Open on Otsego Lake. The 11-tournament schedule runs through Oct. 24-25, the dates for the season-ending Club Classic.

Local men win bass tournament

Bruce Hall and Vince Fink won the Susquehanna Bass Association's Valley Electric, Plumbing and Heating Tournament this past Sunday on Otsego Lake.

The duo filled the five-smallmouth-bass limit at 15.34 pounds. Their total included Hall's 4.03-pound, 20-inch lunker of the day, which stands as the Big Smally of the Year. Lou Falvo and Rob DeMott placed second with five fish at 14.42 pounds. Allan and Peter Green finished third (five fish, 13.60 pounds) and Mike Murphy and Brad Dick rounded out the top four (five, 13.43).

Vic VanSteenburg won the smallmouth pool with an 18.5-inch fish weighing 3.32 pounds.

The SBA will host the Neptune Diner Open this Sunday on Goodyear Lake. This will serve as the last points tournament of the year before the Art-Nate VanSteenburg Memorial Classic on Oct. 25-26 on Otsego Lake. Duo top 15 pounds in bass event

Don Hoag and Bob Gray won the Susquehanna Bass Association's ONEY's Garage Open Bass Tournament this past Sunday on the Mohawk River.

Hoag and Gray filled the five-fish limit with a winning weight of 15.4 pounds. Hoag caught the lunker of the day, a 3.5-pound, 19.25-inch smallmouth bass, and the big smally, at 3.43 pounds and 19 inches.

Bob Luther and Jim Clement placed second (five fish, 14.67 pounds); Don Reutter and Rudy Eignor finished third (five, 13.6); and R.J. Platt and Kevin Eberling rounded out the top four (five, 11.4).

The SBA will host the Valley Electric & Plumbing & Heating Company tournament from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 12 on Otsego Lake.

Jim & Vic - Two In A Row !

Jim Dillenbeck and Vic VanSteenburg earned their second straight Susquehanna Bass Association event, taking the Oneonta Cooperstown Pennysaver Open on Otsego Lake last weekend with a five-fish limit weighing 16.21 pounds.

Dillenbeck contributed the lunker of the day, a 4.1-pound, 19.5-inch largemouth bass, to the winning total.

Bruce Hall and Vince Fink finished second with five fish at 14.98 pounds. Lou Falvo and Matt Maison (five fish, 13.64 pounds) placed third, and R.J. Platt and Lou Blasetti Jr. (five, 12.35) rounded out the top four.

Pat McNeil caught the big smallmouth, at 3.35 pounds and 19 inches.

The next SBA tournament is the ONEY'S Garage Open, which runs from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 28 on the Mohawk River. The SBA also will host the Mac's Barber Shop Fun Tournament on Canadargo Lake from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 5.

This tournament is open to the public (three men or women per boat) and costs $20 per person. Pre-registration is required. For more information, call Frank at 607-432-7553 by Oct. 1.
